Your Recruiting Journey Starts with an Introduction

Building relationships with college volleyball coaches can start with one simple step: a short introductory email. You don’t need a long message or a perfect sales pitch—just introduce yourself, share your graduation year, position, high school and club team, and explain why you’re interested in that college. Include a link to your highlight video so the coach can quickly see you play. A clear subject line, such as “2029 Setter | Tay Smith | Highlight Video,” helps communicate the basics before they even open your email. Make it personal by mentioning something specific that interests you about the school or volleyball program.

That first email opens the door, but relationships develop over time. Follow up when you have something useful to share, such as a new video, an upcoming tournament schedule, or an academic or athletic accomplishment. Keep your messages brief, professional, and written in your own voice. If you don’t hear back immediately, don’t get discouraged or send daily reminders. Focus on thoughtful communication that helps coaches get to know you as both a player and a person. Finding the right coach’s contact information is your starting point—introducing yourself is the next step.
